OBJECTIVE ONE
The AQUAPHOENIX objectives reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the project. Our mission is to make a lasting impact on circular aquaculture technology, industry, science, policy, and communication.
The first project objective is to test, develop and optimise sludge collection. This refers to a novel technology system that enables the safe collection, transport and storage of the waste (sludge) that accumulates under open sea fish pens. An excess of sludge risks increased emissions of nitrogen and phosphorus and the pollution of marine environments. Thus, optimising sludge collection technologies is an important step for reducing emission, protecting the ecosystem, and supporting the aquaculture industry without compromising the environment.
