OBJECTIVES

Optimise sludge collection technology and develop best practices

Allow for increased production while reducing emissions of nitrogen and phosphorous (N+P) and protecting marine ecosystems.

Integrate environmental monitoring

Create an integrated and reliable regional framework for monitoring and budgeting N+P emissions and precisely quantifying the restorative impact of sludge collection technology on marine ecosystems.

Develop aquaculture waste as a circular resource

Validate sludge as a circular resource by testing its uses across multiple pathways; nurture the growth of commercial markets for recyclable products such as green biogas, organic fertiliser and sustainable aquafeed.

Inform policy and decision-making

Develop approaches to policy guidance and iteration, decision-making, stakeholder engagement and industry collaborations to support the widespread adoption and scaling of sludge collection technology and downstream value chains created by waste collection and recycling.

Share knowledge and ensure uptake

Share and grow knowledge about sustainable aquaculture, new technologies, place-based environmental monitoring and favourable business environments, as well as establishing an Open Science approach that ensures data and results are free and accessible to all.
