At a session showcasing solutions for sustainable food systems, AQUAPHOENIX took the global stage
In November 2025, AQUAPHOENIX partner Ragn-Sells introduced the project to global audiences at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.
In the context of the AQUAPHOENIX project, Ragn-Sells currently focusses efforts on growing the potential of aquaculture waste (sludge) as a circular resource. The company brings its expertise in waste management and recycling to the project’s international consortium, with partners across science, industry, technology and policy working together to salvage aquaculture waste and process it into new assets like sustainable fertiliser, manufacturing materials and renewable energy.
At COP30, the project’s mission to capture and recycle aquaculture waste was presented as a novel solution to the urgent need to manage aquaculture emissions, reduce waste, and ensure a sustainable future for one of the fastest-growing food industries in the world.
Joining the Swedish Delegation to COP alongside companies like IKEA, Tetra Pak and Alfa Laval, Ragn-Sells’ Chief Sustainable Officer Pär Larshans presented AQUAPHOENIX in discussions of scalable circular measures across the agrifood value chain.
As AQUAPHOENIX enters its second year, the project will continue to scale up novel approaches to clean aquaculture, waste valorisation and policy pathways, with partners working to prove how circular innovations can drive positive change and sustainable growth in global food systems.
